The Transregional Virtual Research Institute: Working together to understand the entanglements of media and politics in InterAsian contexts

Media, Activism and the New Political: InterAsian Perspectives, launched by the Social Science Research Council’s InterAsia Program in 2012, is its first Transregional Virtual Research Institute (TVRI). The TVRI is a collaborative enterprise that brings together faculty from different disciplines, different international campuses, and at different stages of their careers to further research and training on themes addressing the interrelationship of media and politics within and across InterAsia.

The TVRI is designed to function as a research center or institute—supporting individual and collaborative research agendas, sponsoring national and international conferences, workshops and symposia, and contributing to the training of future generations of scholars—that is not physically grounded in one location or housed within a particular institution. Led by Principal Researcher Srirupa Roy, the TVRI is comprised of ten core researchers and a growing network of contributing researchers.
